Paityn

Paityn has been with the organization for the past three and one-half years. She needed assistance to improve her reading and writing skills when she was in the first grade. Paityn’s mother took accountability by purchasing any resources needed to ensure that her daughter improved. She practiced at home and in school to stay on grade level in her classes. Paityn is now able to read fluently at the appropriate grade level in elementary school. She currently attends programming once a week for private tutoring to stay on grade level in her courses.

Markel

Markel has been with the organization for the past three and one-half years. Markel needed assistance with Pre-Algebra & Algebra 1, two difficult math subjects in high school. He tends to learn better in small groups or with one-on-one instruction, which is how he ended up in our program! Markel appeared to be shy, but through time, he opened up and started attending private tutoring. He is a member of DUYA and he currently attends programming two or three times a week to stay on grade level in his courses.

Cherish

Cherish has been with the organization for the past five years. Cherish needed assistance with reading and writing skills when she was in the second grade. She was told by teachers that she would be held back if her reading skills didn’t improve. Cherish was motivated to improve her skills and began attending programming regularly, two or three times a week. Through dedication and discipline, Cherish gained confidence due to her small wins and never gave up on herself. She is currently attending services once a week for reading comprehension and mathematics to stay on grade level in her courses.

Rian

Rian has been with the organization for the past two and one-half years. Rian needed assistance with mathematics and writing skills when she was in the third grade. The main course she struggled with the most was mathematics. She had difficulties solving and processing equations. She was very adamant about improving her math skills and worked exceptionally hard by practicing at home, at school, and with DUYA. Rian is currently receiving “B average” grades on her quizzes and tests at school. She is currently attending services once a week for essay writing and math support.

Yabsira

  • Yabsira has been with the organization for six months. Yabsira was always in the library and joined our organization because she was intrigued! Yabsira is currently attending tutoring once a week and receives support in essay writing and mathematics. She is now one of our “Student Helpers” responsible for collecting supplies, passing out materials, and organizing books during programming. Yabsira has built very strong and meaningful relationships with other students in the program.
